Sparkle & Shine at the Oscars

by Laura Kronen on February 28, 2011

Hollywood’s glamour girls stepped out last night to salute film at the Oscars. The ladies dazzled in sequins and sparkle from their perfectly coiffed hair to their flawless manicures- after all, the real winners at the end of the day are the best dressed women. The show is always a celebration of fashion versus film in my eyes.

There were quite a few chic color trends going on including ladies rocking fire engine red colored gowns.  It used to be you never wore red because you blended in with the carpet.  But tell that to presenter Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang, nominee Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein and presenter Jennifer Hudson in Versace who all stepped out on the red carpet in matching gowns. Plums and purples were also colours de jour. These super-stunning hues were stand-outs on the carpet. Academy Award winner Natalie Portman was gorgeous in a jewel-tone plum Rodarte, and Scarlett Johansson wore a similar shade. Mila Kunis also wore a soft lavender chiffon Elie Saab Couture dress that was amazingly chic. The color of the dress, the draping and the lace details were all heavenly.

My favorite trend of the evening was, and always is, glitz, glitz and more glitz. I love the razzle dazzle and the channeling of old Hollywood glamour.  Halle Berry in Marchesa (my favorite by far), Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein Collection, Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier, Michelle Williams in Chanel Haute Couture, and Hilary Swank in a gorgeous Gucci all looked ethereal while they shimmered and shined their way through the evening.
