You work out to feel better about yourself and live a healthy life. However, the very place you are working out to improve your body, might be making you sick.

Gyms are full of germs. The New York Times, ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC’s Today Show have all done stories about the alarming levels of germs found on gym equipment, and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association issued a position paper citing that skin infections in athletes are extremely common and account for more than half of all outbreaks of infectious diseases.  In Good Morning America’s tests, microbiologist Dr. Philip Teirno found the most germs on equipment used by “multiple people in quick sequence, such as dumbbells.” Germs found in the doctor’s tests included staph aureus, klebsiella, enterobacter and E. coli, which can cause various ailments.

Don’t fret fitness buffs, there is a new way to shield yourself from coming into contact with germs on free weights, weight machines, treadmills and stairmasters.  Check out PhitGrips. They are are palm-sized, anti-microbial cushioned grips that fit around dumbbell bars and equipment handrails and are infused with an antimicrobial agent to protect you from all of those nasty germs. Just rub your hands together occasionally to spread the microbial agent over the entire surface of the palm. When the logo wears off, it’s time for new PhitGrips.

And moms – you can even use PhitGrips on grocery cart handles, mass transit hand rails, pot holders, etc.

Available online at www.phitgrip.com $9.99
