Do It Yourself Bouncy Blowout

by Laura Kronen on February 23, 2011

I can’t count the amount of times I said to my hair stylist that I wish I could employ him full time to blow out my hair every morning and give me that silky, luxurious full bodied blow-out that, undoubtedly, always makes me feel like a million bucks.  The truth is, I can save myself a hefty payroll and do it myself, and so can you.  Here’s how:

First, start with freshly cleaned hair.  Use a volumizing shampoo and conditioner to prep.  After washing, apply a volumizing lotion all over and comb it through- my current favorite is Bed Head SuperStar Volumizing Leave in Conditioner $15. Then, with the nozzle attachment removed from your blowdryer, flip your hair upside down and dry your hair, working from the roots to the ends. Stop when its about 80% dry and then flip your head back up.

Next, separate your hair into 4 sections, the back, the crown and each side.  Wrap each section in a large velcro roller winding it to the scalp with the ends curved under.  Now attach the nozzle back to your dryer and remove one roller and, using a round brush, dry that section curving the ends under. Repeat with each section, but do the crown last.  When you pull the brush to the ends for one last time, wind it up so it rests on your scalp like a roller (thats my favorite part of a professional blowout).  Let it cool, remove the brush and flaunt those gorgeous locks.
