What is a BB Cream?

BB CreamOver the last year or so, BB Creams, also known as Blemish Balms or Beauty Balms (hence the BB), have been getting rave reviews. If you haven’t heard of them yet, you are about to be bombarded. These do it all balms create instantly smooth and luminous skin with excellent long term benefits too.

This magic potion is not like foundation – it’s not a dense and it doesnt aggravate sensitive skin since it contains botanicals and anti-bacterial ingredients.  This all-in-one makeup primes, brightens, evens out skin tone, hydrates, covers and absorbs oil giving the skin a natural finish and usually with an added bonus of an SPF of 15 or higher.  Not only are BB Creams good for your skin, but they work over time to improve it. I like to think of them as super-luxe primers.

So, what’s really in these creams?  They are chock full of antioxidants, antibacterial ingredients, intense hydrators like hyaluronic acid, botanical ingredients (like green tea and ginseng), and skin firming agents like caffeine and mattifying agents which keep skin from looking too shiny.

There are a number of BB Creams on the market right now but I found one that I think complements most skin tones, gives good coverage  and lends a touch of moisture. Plus it’s inexpensive. Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector $13
