CoolSculpting in Atlanta and Alpharetta: A Real Review

You have probably heard the expression,”If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.”  Well, I have found the exception to the rule. Three months ago I tried CoolSculpting at the offices of Dr. Beaty in Alpharetta Georgia.  It was, by far, the strangest experience I have ever underwent (so far!) in the name of beauty, but had fantastic results and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

If you haven’t heard of CoolSculpting, it is an FDA-cleared, patented procedure which uses a targeted cooling process that kills the fat cells underneath the skin, literally freezing them to the point of elimination. Only fat cells are frozen. Your healthy skin cells remain, well, healthy. No knives. No suction hoses. No needles. No scars. Once crystallized, the fat cells die and are naturally eliminated from your body. In a few months, boom: say hello to a new you.

I have to admit, I was a little nervous at first because I didn’t know anyone personally who had tried it before me.  There was quite a bit of information online but it all seemed to read the same to me. That translated in my head to planted information by the industry itself to help kickstart a new product. Here’s my completely candid experience:

I went in for an initial consultation at the offices of Dr. Beaty Facial Plastic Surgery at Milton Hall in Alpharetta to learn more about what I was considering putting my body through.  I eat right.  I exercise every single day.  But I’ve had two children, (c-section) and anyone who has had more than one kid knows that it is not that easy to have those tight and toned abs no matter how much core work you do. Something had just changed. After taking some “before” pictures, and having my stomach stretched and drawn on with a magic marker (which was vaguely reminiscent of a college sorority hazing episode), I was told that I’d be a great candidate for the treatment and that they thought I would respond really well to it. I’m always up for trying new things, and I love blazing trails, so I booked my appointment.  Plus the idea of looking like a supermodel in a bikini on the beach was dancing in my head.

A week later I showed up for my appointment. I put on some pretty disposable boxer shorts and was magic-markered on again so that the CoolSculpting applicators would be placed in precisely the right spot.  My lovely technician, Brooke, was the person who walked me through this whole process and she was a doll.  It was her suggestion to have two CoolFit applicators placed vertically along my oblique muscles.  There are all different types of applicators for different body parts. I originally thought it would be one placed horizontally under my belly button, but I took the expert advice. (good call on that one!)

placement of cool sculpting applicators

So here is how the procedure works:  First I had two incredibly cold and wet cloths placed on my abdomen where the CoolSculpting applicators were going to be placed.  I was warned it would be intensely cold but honestly, it wasn’t that bad at all.  Next came the applicators.  They were attached to you with the intense suction of a super strength vacuum and I was lowered into a chair to “rest” for the next hour. Although I was warned, the next five minutes could be intense. The suction felt stronger and yowza, did it get cold. Really cold. I found myself counting down those five minutes and wouldn’t you know it, at exactly the five minute mark, I felt comfortably numb (cue Pink Floyd) as I sat and responded to texts from clients and played Words With Friends.  Don’t get me wrong, I definitely knew something was happening in my middle section. There was a pulling, cold, numb sensation that there is no denying, but it wasn’t painful. It wasn’t even uncomfortable.

At the hour mark, my CoolSculpting treatment ended and the applicators were removed.  Although I was prepared earlier for what I saw, it was pretty bizarre to see it in real life, on my own body.  These applicators left what looked like a stick of butter sitting on top of my tummy.  It was pretty stomach turning. My skin now had the form of these applicators and had to be “massaged” back to normal. Now, when I think of a massage I usually think of a spa like relaxing treatment.  Not the case. Although again, it wasn’t quite painful, it was the freakiest 30 seconds I have ever had and was followed by 5 minutes of having-a-baby-like contractions. It wouldn’t stop me from doing it again though if that’s any consolation.  Most people don’t react the way I did, so don’t give that part of my story too much concern.  Plus, it was over with so fast that I hadn’t even thought about it again until writing this post three months later.

Unlike a lot of other procedures, CoolSculpting takes very little time and is pretty simple to fit into your daily life. After your CoolSculpting treatment you can typically get right back to your busy day. Each treatment lasts one hour – the same time you might spend at the gym. So you can easily fit your appointment into a lunch break.  I was back on the treadmill the next morning running 5 miles, so it doesn’t prevent you from exercise or anything social or work related.

For about 3 weeks after the treatment I had periods of numbness in my abs.  I really was wondering when it would go away, or if it would go away, and then poof, like magic, one day it was gone.  I had been doing research and found that there is not one case of numbness that didn’t subside in conjunction to CoolSculpting so that made me much more confident as well.

After six weeks I went in for my first post treatment evaluation and saw a noticeable reduction of my core. And, even better than that, it also changed my back view as well.  From pulling in with the Cool Sculpting applicators at my obliques it caused my sides to get sucked in more too, giving me even more of an hourglass shape.  Bonus!

At the twelve week mark I went in for another follow up and my results were even more dramatic.  While I won’t post picture of my naked body on my blog (i get enough inappropriate people calling me), I will post some pictures of other anonymous people who were treated by Cool Sculpting and also by Dr. Beaty.  The first set of results were very similar to my own.  Except I pretty much have a six pack now. 🙂

It normally takes about three months to fully realize the effects, mainly because it takes that long for your body to naturally dispose of the fat cells. And yes, you can lose even more with additional treatments if you and the doctor deem it necessary. Here’s some more info regarding what CoolSculpting can redefine on you:

what areas can cool sculpting help

Important to note, Cool Sculpting is not going to make an obese person skinny, but what it will do, is help “sculpt” someone who has spent the time and energy to exercise and eat right, but has just a problem spot or two.  So after a few months, your clothes fit better and you look better. What’s more, there are no pills or supplements and no invasive treatments. And as long as you maintain your normal diet and exercise, your long-term results should remain stable. How cool is that?

So whether you don’t love your love handles, you want to look better at the pool, you want to lose your muffin top that bulges over your low rise jeans, you want to put the luggage in the overhead compartment on the airplane without hesitation, or you want to make your birthday suit your best outfit, Cool Sculpting is a non-invasive, non-painful and quite affordable way to make that all a reality. Call Dr. Beaty’s office for more information. 770-753-0053 or visit the website here.  Mention you read about it on BE YOU ONLY BETTER for special pricing.

Thanks for your first-person experience! I have had my eyes done by Dr. Beatty – in fact, my photos are still on his website even though it was 12 years ago! Anyway, can you give us an idea of the cost of your sculpting, please?

The cost is $750 per area, but your best bet would be to call Dr. Beaty’s office and schedule a consultation. 🙂
